Chakra Seed Syllables
The seed syllables are as follows: LAM (root chakra), VAM (sacral chakra), RAM (solar plexus chakra), YAM (heart chakra), HAM (throat chakra), OM (third eye chakra) and AH or ANG (crown chakra). What are the Chakras?

Chakras are centers for energy transformation. That energy is physical, emotional and intellectual. The emotions in particular are powerful transformers. In fact, the word “emotions” can be decoded as “energy in motion.” The key is to transform this extraordinary energy rather than to deny or suppress emotions and feelings. Let’s look at the themes for each of the seven major chakras.

Root Chakra Energy
The root chakra establishes the underpinning for the other major chakras. First of all, the root chakra is our connection to the physical plane. The focus of the root chakra is survival: food, shelter, safety, comfort, and belonging.

Activating this chakra is a careful process described in ancient texts and based on the body’s powerful energetic system. The root chakra is the resting place for the kundalini energy. Learn more about this topic in the article Kundalini Awakening.

Sacral Chakra Themes
The sacral chakra is known in Sanskrit as “Svadhishthana,” meaning literally “one’s own place.” Sometimes the sacral chakra is called the seat of the soul. In addition, the sacral chakra is believed to house the unconscious. learn more keys to this chakra in the article Sacral Chakra Symbol.

The sacral chakra is the realm of communication, exchange and finances. If this energy is used improperly, addiction to sex or gambling can result. The sacral chakra is the center of reproductive ability, a key creative function, as well as the seat of artistic creation.

Solar Plexus Chakra Balancing
The solar plexus chakra is located at the naval. This is the center of intuition, the place where you get a gut feeling about life. The solar plexus is connected to individuation and the ability to take on responsibility. This is the place of the sun, a form of masculine energy.

This chakra is a place of personal authority and emotional strength. If misused, the solar plexus becomes the seat of addictions. Balancing the solar plexus helps the individual to have passion for life without over-indulging in destructive habits. Explore further in Solar Plexus Chakra Symbol.

Heart Chakra: Center of Love
The heart chakra is the seat of love and devotion. In a balanced and healthy state, the heart expresses charity, compassion, and kindness. In addition, the heart is a focus for beauty and culture. Expanding the heart chakra brings the awareness of service to the community and compassion for others.

The heart chakra is a twelve-petaled lotus. The twelve lotus petals of the heart chakra represent peace, bliss, love, harmony, empathy, understanding, unity, forgiveness, compassion, kindness, purity, and clarity. Explore another mantra to balance the heart chakra in Heart Mantras.

Throat Chakra Significance
The fifth chakra is the throat chakra or the Vishuddha chakra. In Sanskrit, Vishuddha means “especially pure.” The throat chakra is depicted as having sixteen petals. The throat chakra is connected to creativity and self-expression as well as the actions of speaking, chanting and singing.

This chakra is associated with the neck, thyroid, esophagus, teeth, mouth and the ears. The throat and thyroid are where emotions, intentions, praise and criticism are expressed. To learn more about how to work with the throat chakra, see Throat Chakra Symbol Meaning.

Third Eye Chakra Meaning
The sixth chakra is the third eye chakra, the seat of spiritual vision. For this reason, the third eye is associated with heightened perception and insight. The Sanskrit term for the third eye chakra is Ajna, which means to “command” or “perceive.” Learn more in Third Eye Chakra Symbol Meaning.

There are several organs associated with the third eye chakra. These organs include the eyes, the ears, the brain, the pituitary gland and the endocrine system in general. The name pineal comes from the Latin pinea or pinus, meaning pine cone. Some traditions say that the soul enters and leaves the physical body at birth and death through the pineal gland.

Crown Chakra Balancing
The seventh chakra is the crown chakra, the seat of enlightenment, known in Sanskrit as the Sahasrara chakra. Sahasrara means “thousand-petaled.” According to Eastern traditions, the crown chakra is related to god-consciousness (samadhi) and the transforming powers of the divine.

Sometimes a blocked or imbalanced crown chakra is said to be associated with accidents and unexpected life events. Thus, balancing this chakra can be a very practical endeavor. The crown can be viewed as the father, or spirit energy, drawing the mother, or earth energy, from the lower chakras.
