Rama’s Powerful Healing Mantra
Rama (or Ram) lived thousands of years ago in India. He possessed great spiritual authority and was known for the healings and blessings he bestowed on others. The word “ram” is also the Sanskrit seed syllable for the solar plexus. This means that the powerful emotional energy of the solar plexus can be activated using this syllable. Stimulating the Energy Pathways
The name “Rama” itself stimulates both the masculine energy of the sun (ra) and the energy of the Divine Mother (ma). These energies intertwine around the spine as shown in the symbol of the caduceus. Chanting these two syllables brings the energy from the base to the crown, clearing and healing the chakras and related organs along the way.
Masculine and Feminine Nadis
These two syllables activate the two main nadis, the most significant energy channels in the body. These are called the Pingala and the Ida. There are believed to be 72,000 nadis associated with the human body. The patterns of channels is similar to the nervous system, but on an energetic level. The Pingala is the main channel for the masculine energy. The Ida is the channel for the feminine energy.
Apadamapa Hataram Healing Chant
Another well-known chant to Rama is the Apadamapa Hataram. This is one of the great healing mantras in the Hindu tradition. The emphasis is on the seed syllable ram (solar plexus). Meaning: “O healing potency, source of blessings, send Rama’s energy here to the earth.”
Om Apadamapa Hataram Dataram
Sarva Sampadam
Lokah Bhi Ramam Sri Ramam
Bhuyo Bhuyo Namam Yaham
Raising the Dead with the Name of Rama
There are many legends about the origin of kirtan. One of these stories focuses on the modern founder of kirtan in India, a sixteenth century monk named Tulsidas. Tulsidas was known to perform miracles including raising a man from the dead using the name of Rama. The following is the story.
Once a funeral procession was passing through the town. A man had died and his widow begged Tulsidas to bring her husband back to life. Tulsidas gathered a group around the man and asked them to recite “Lord Ram.” As they chanted the name of Rama, the man rose from the cot on which he had been carried and returned home alive and well.
