Sita is the main female character in the Hindu epic poem, the Ramayana, and is an incarnation of Lakshmi. Ram is the central male character and an incarnation of Vishnu. Sita and Ram are viewed as the ideal spouses. Sita represents courage, dedication and purity. Ram (or Rama) represents the truth, the soul and virtue. Reciting these names is believed to balance both sides of the brain. Sita and Ram are symbolic references to the pineal and pituitary glands. The name Sita stimulates the nervous system and intuition (pineal gland). The word Ram has a calming and relaxing effect. Jai means victory.

This mantra is associated with a Buddha known as the Medicine Buddha. “Bekandze” means “the elimination of suffering” and is repeated three times for the removal of suffering on the physical, emotional and spiritual levels. The meaning is “May the many sentient beings who are suffering be freed of all pain including disease, death and karma and may this suffering never arise again.” There are several different spellings and pronunciations for this mantra. I have chosen one that feels the most natural for me. I hope that others can use this as musical meditation for any situation or loved one that requires healing.
